Is Bipolar Disorder Genetic?

The incidence of the disease increases to 7-8% in those with bipolar disorder. If one of the twins has bipolar disorder, the probability of bipolar disorder in the other twin increases up to 45-60%.

Who is suffering from this disease?


Bipolar disorder usually occurs between the ages of 15-24 and often lasts throughout life. It can be seen at any age (from 7 to 77), but it most often begins in the early 20s. It occurs in 1-2 of every 100 people.
It is seen in similar frequency all over the world. There is no difference in frequency of occurrence between men and women. Newly diagnosed mania is rarely seen in children and over 65 years of age.
